A serving police sergeant was arrested on January 26, 2026, for his alleged involvement in supplying the weapon used for a robbery in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.​

The sergeant, who was attached to the Daudu Division in Benue State, was implicated following the arrest of a prime suspect, Justine Gbata (30), of Doka Village.​

On Friday, January 24, 2026, gunmen armed with an AK-47 ambushed a victim, Muhammad Danka, in Ankoma Village.

They fired several shots before stealing his red Bajaj motorcycle and fleeing into a forest.​The Arrest: A combined team of police operatives, vigilantes, and hunters pursued the gang. Gbata was apprehended during the chase, and seven spent AK-47 shells were recovered at the scene.​The Confession:

During interrogation, Gbata confessed that the AK-47 rifle used in the operation was provided by the serving sergeant from the neighboring Benue State.​Current Status​The implicated sergeant has been identified, arrested, and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benue State for further investigation.​Police authorities in Nasarawa and Benue are reportedly working together to:​Recover the stolen motorcycle.​

Apprehend the remaining members of the robbery gang.​Investigate the extent of the sergeant’s involvement and whether other weapons were supplied to criminal elements.​This case has sparked significant concern regarding internal security and the infiltration of the police force by individuals aiding criminal syndicates.
